Oscar Niemeyer (1907-2012) was a renowned Brazilian architect, one of the greatest names in modern architecture, famous for the construction of Brasilia and his style of sensually curved lines. He designed over 600 works worldwide, notably in France, and received the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 1988.
Oscar Niemeyer, one of the fathers of modernist architecture, is honored with this hand-crafted limited edition. Niemeyer’s legacy, one of the most influential influences on 20th- and 21st-century architecture, is recognized and honored in this comprehensive and sumptuous exploration of his 104-year life and career.
Niemeyer established himself alongside Le Corbusier, but ultimately moved away from the rigid, straight lines of traditional modernism. Instead, he forged a parallel path that mimics the crescendos and unfoldings of human emotion through plunging curves, graceful arches, and sensual lines. Using reinforced concrete, he elevated the everyday to the sublime.
Original sketches and photographs, along with contributions from Tadao Ando, Santiago Calatrava, Frank Gehry, and Zaha Hadid, make Oscar Niemeyer a testament to the fantastic artistic journey he undertook over the past century.
