Picasso’s original ceramics are little known to the general public. This work allows us to situate them in the artist’s work and give them the important place they deserve. These works contain more than 571 illustrations.
We find in many of his ceramics the elements to which the artist has accustomed us in painting. This is particularly the case with a plate decorated with a female face which echoes its oils. By practicing ceramics, the Spanish artist reconnects with his childhood soul and discovers a new passion. The artist actually constructs an escape for himself; he devotes the same creative process to this unexpected practice as for his paintings. With the help of the Madoura workshop, he reissued 633 of his ceramics. To do this, he gives instructions on the number of prints to produce. Better yet, he stamps some of them with the words “original Picasso print”. Indeed, the artist almost religiously ensured that his pieces were signed, numbered, dated, and sometimes even located.
In addition, research around the work of the monument of modern art continues to deepen. On the art market side, his ceramics are regularly submitted to auction.
