Kubrick (book) by Michel Ciment. Publisher: Calmann-Levy. 1980. Hardcover book in very good condition. Some minor scuffing on the cover. 236 pages in French. More than 300 photos, including 60 in color.
This is the first book about Kubrick to be published in France!
Stanley Kubrick was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer (1928-1999). He is known for cult films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and The Shining, which earned him a reputation as a perfectionist and a cinematic genius. Before becoming a director, he was initially a photographer for Look magazine.
Michel Ciment is more of a scholar than a critic, and it was in this capacity that he particularly appealed to Kubrick, much like Alexander Walker, another interpreter of the great filmmaker’s work. This led to a relationship of esteem and trust between Ciment and Kubrick that lasted from 1971 to 1999 – between A Clockwork Orange and Eyes Wide Shut, the last film by the most captivating (for the general public), most secretive, and most thoughtful visionary of the seventh art. The author undertakes an extraordinary introspection of Kubrick’s work; the book also includes photographic documents from his films. This is a masterful book!
