Sterlé Joaillier Paris (book) by Viviane Jutheau. Editions Vecteurs. 1990. Hardcover book in very good condition, 130 pages. French text. This book features the work of jeweler Sterlé, including color plates with notes on the stones used (carat, size), and color photographs.
A Haute Couture jeweler! At the height of his success, Sterlé designed for jewelry giants Boucheron, Chaumet, and Ostertag. He won the De Beers Diamond Award three years in a row and operated from an exclusive boutique in Paris that served the elite and royal families by appointment only.
Desired for a career in banking, Pierre Sterlé discovered the world of jewelry in Paris, working with a jeweler uncle who took him in after his father’s death. His work quickly shifted toward the creation of unique pieces for wealthy clients, even going so far as to create the crown for Queen Narriman, commissioned by her husband, King Farouk of Egypt.
His inspiration came primarily from nature, and his work is distinguished by a search for lightness and asymmetry. His particular taste for brooches, which he considered a painting framed by clothing, brings him closer to haute couture.
This book explores the work and life of Pierre Sterlé, before focusing on his creations, classified by category, and reveals the finesse of this jewelry master of the 1940s and 1950s.
