Vallauris, la ville atelier / Vallauris, the workshop town, 1938-1962 (book) Magnelli Museum, 224-page bound book. 325 illustrations. 2021. A ceramic adventure. Editor Silvana Editoriale. Factory sealed. Be careful, the corners are a little packed. (see photos). French version.
Dedicated to the excitement of the production of ceramic works in the 1950s in Vallauris, this catalog, through the presentation of nearly 300 works and documents, highlights the attractiveness of the city after the Second World War and its know-how in ceramic creation.
The post-war years appear to be a legendary moment when everything seemed to come together to revive the pottery city and give birth to an unparalleled creative impulse.
Thus, the 1950s saw the establishment of a new generation of creators taking advantage of local resources, factories formerly established in Vallauris which maintained their activities and new ones which developed, while the aura of Picasso, established in Madoura, attracts his poet and painter friends. Gradually, a modus vivendi is put in place, where for around ten years, between cohabitation – more or less accepted – and collaboration, between tradition and innovation, crossings and meetings take place in a climate of both work and festive.
Vallauris appears like a real workshop town, bustling with meetings, new ideas and experiments.
