Discover this rare sculptural vase by Alexandre Kostanda (1921-2007), the iconic Polish-born ceramist of Vallauris’s golden age.
A unique piece depicting a bull and a deer, finely modeled in the tradition of Vallauris pottery.

About Alexandre Kostanda
Born in Poland in 1921, Alexandre Kostanda moved to France as a child. After apprenticing with Louis Giraud, he opened his own workshop in Vallauris in 1953. He imported stoneware clay from Cluny, mixing it with local Vallauris earth to achieve higher firing temperatures and exceptional durability.

A key figure in Vallauris ceramics, he helped organize the International Ceramics Biennale of Vallauris in 1968.

His style evolved from sensual and plastic forms in his early years toward more pared-down, minimalist designs. While Vallauris ceramics are known for vibrant colors, Kostanda preferred muted, natural clay tones. His work appears rustic yet surprises with its extreme finesse, perfect proportions, and outstanding technical mastery.

An ideal collector’s piece for lovers of mid-century ceramics, French ceramic art from the 1950s-1960s, and vintage Vallauris design.
