Discover the rare leporello Ballads CPLY William Copley‘s (aka CPLY) exhibition catalog, published in 1967 by the Galerie Alexandre Iolas in Paris. This unpaginated accordion-style book, measuring nearly 140 cm, presents the 20 paintings from the exhibition of March 30, 1967, with eight sepia reproductions, a song score in the margin, and a fully lithographed cover with flaps. Faithful to the iconoclastic style of the American artist (1919-1996), a figurative painter, precursor of Pop Art, and figure of late Surrealism, this artist’s book blends dark humor, social satire, comic strip characters, men in hats, and erotic female figures, accompanied by texts in English (ballads and popular songs). An exceptional document in very good condition, essential for lovers of contemporary art, narrative figuration, and artists’ editions from the 1960s.
