Joseph Porphyre Pinchon is a French illustrator, pioneer of comics and precursor of the clear line.

In 1905, he created the comic character of Bécassine in “La Semaine de Suzette”, an illustrated periodical specialized for young girls. From 1913, on texts by Caumery, Bécassine experienced adventures “to follow”, then published in albums. Pinchon drew until his death the adventures of this Breton cleaning lady gone in Paris.
