The 2008 Featured Exhibition
From February 22 to July 13, 2008, the Lyon Museum of Contemporary Art organized one of the most significant exhibitions ever dedicated in France to Keith Haring, the iconic artist of the 1980s New York art scene. To mark what would have been his 50th birthday, this exceptional retrospective was curated by Italian curator Gianni Mercurio, in close collaboration with the Keith Haring Foundation in New York.

The catalogue presents a unique collection of works from major American and European public and private collections.

Keith Haring: The Artist
Born in 1958, Keith Haring began by studying advertising design before appropriating public spaces. He started by drawing in the New York subway, then quickly exhibited in the most prestigious galleries (Tony Shafrazi, Leo Castelli…).

From 1984 onwards, he developed a unique visual language: synthetic shapes, vibrant colors, and bold black outlines. His instantly recognizable graphic style and immense popularity also stem from his choice of accessible media: subway walls, lampposts, posters, and even merchandise that he sold himself through his Pop Shop.

This magnificent, richly illustrated official catalog remains one of the most comprehensive references on the work of Keith Haring. Ideal for fans of contemporary art, street art, and 1980s pop art.
