Pablo Picasso moves to the South of France. In 1946, at the “Poterie, fleurs, parfums” exhibition at Nérolium, the Vallauris farmers’ market, Picasso met the Ramié family, creators and owners of the Atelier Madoura. They invited him to model clay in their workshop. In 1947, Picasso returned to Vallauris to admire his fired ceramics. Seduced, he didn’t leave the Atelier until 1971, after a period of prolific production. In fact, the cubist artist became a ceramist, creating over 3,600 ceramic pieces, some of which were produced in quantities of 25 to 500. Madoura thus became the exclusive publisher of Picasso’s ceramic creations: vases, plates, dishes and pitchers.
