Discover this abstract print by Polish artist Krystyna Śmiechowska—an original work on heavily embossed paper featuring pronounced relief, signed and numbered, measuring 29.92 x 22.04 inches (76 x 56 cm), and created between 1974 and 1978. Blending circular forms, interlacing patterns, and enigmatic inscriptions, this composition perfectly embodies the artist’s unique style, which combines color etching with embossing on large-format fine art paper. Created during the period when Śmiechowska was permanently settling in France, the work draws inspiration from Early Medieval Celtic and Slavic manuscripts, Germanic runes, and Old Slavic scripts to craft a visual poetry and a mystical, indecipherable form of letter-based art. The intended effect lends the piece a sacred dimension and a unique archaeological atmosphere, transforming ancient characters into stylized graphic elements rather than legible text. Overall condition is very good, with slight wear to the edges (see photos). A rare and sought-after piece for collectors of abstract contemporary art and original prints from the 1970s.
