Original lithograph titled “Le Mariage” (The Wedding) by Haitian artist Saint-Louis Blaise (1956–1993); a limited edition print measuring 15.35 x 12.79 inches (39 x 32.5 cm), in excellent condition. The work bears an authenticity dry stamp as well as the artist’s signature. It depicts a rural Haitian wedding scene featuring figures with rounded forms (in a style reminiscent of Botero) and precise linework, set against a backdrop of a church and a lush green hill.

This work is a perfect example of the style that defined the second phase of Saint-Louis Blaise’s artistic career; here, he captures a Haitian provincial wedding with humor and satire. The couple in the foreground—the bride in a ruffled dress holding her bouquet and the groom in a purple suit and hat, accompanied by family and a young flower girl—embody the famous “rounded style” that brought the artist renown. Behind them stands a small white church atop a hill, typical of the Haitian landscape.

Trained under Charles Anatole and later the Bottex brothers, Saint-Louis Blaise initially created large-scale historical murals before turning to the lively genre scenes for which he is known. Although he died prematurely at the age of 38, he remains one of Haiti’s most respected modern painters.
